Popular Silver Strike slot machines at the Plaza Hotel and Casino will begin dispensing a new set of collector coins. Operating on the downtown gaming floor, the updated Silver Strike slot machines issue $20 silver-clad tokens to players who place $1.50 wagers on winning spins.
As casino operations shifted toward modern digital ticket technology over recent decades, classic coin-dispensing games became increasingly rare. However, Silver Strike slot machines retained a dedicated following among legacy gaming enthusiasts and coin collectors. In response to customer demand, the Plaza restored two units in 2020 and subsequently added two additional units to accommodate visitor traffic.
Under the updated payout structure, three of the property’s machines will award one of three newly designed $20 tokens. The fourth unit will continue dispensing existing $10 tokens representing local venue brands until inventory depletes, after which it will transition entirely to the new silver-clad series.
The new token collection features three distinct designs commemorating the property heritage. One design displays a deck of playing cards alongside the official property slogan, another depicts a vintage downtown scene marking the original 1971 opening year, and a third displays the North Tower alongside historical mining imagery. Players who win a token can elect to keep the piece to complete a collectible set or exchange it at the casino cage for its $20 cash value.
Jonathan Jossel, chief executive officer of the Plaza Hotel and Casino, stated that the retro gaming experience has performed well since its reintroduction. He noted that the new coin designs pay homage to the history of the property while giving regular players an incentive to collect the entire set.
By continuing to support Silver Strike slot machines, the resort maintains a unique historic gaming option alongside its contemporary casino offerings. Fans of classic gaming mechanics can access the refreshed coin series throughout the main floor as part of the ongoing property promotional schedule.
