Silver Strike Slot Machines at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas are dispensing a brand new collection of custom $20 silver-clad tokens. The property launched the updated collector series to build upon its vintage gaming offerings, appealing to both casual slot players and dedicated casino memorabilia enthusiasts who target the rare collectible coins.
The newly introduced tokens require players to place a $1.50 bet to be eligible to win a piece. As part of the update, three of the four Silver Strike Slot Machines currently operating on the casino floor have been loaded with three distinct token designs. The fourth machine continues to dispense previous $10 edition tokens featuring Bingo and Pop Up Pizza branding until current inventory is fully depleted, after which it will also transition to the new $20 tokens.
The three updated token designs highlight different aspects of the property history and branding. One design showcases a pack of Plaza playing cards encircled by the resort current tagline, The Place To Be Downtown. A second design presents a vintage Las Vegas scene paired with the year 1971, marking the original opening date of the resort. The third design highlights the North Tower of the property alongside a classic prospector miner image and the phrase Where Vegas Began.
Silver Strike Slot Machines were once widespread across Nevada casino floors but have become increasingly rare as venues transitioned to modern digital gaming hardware. The units dispense physical, protective-capsule-enclosed tokens directly from the machine whenever specific winning combinations align on the reels. Players who win the tokens can keep them as personal souvenirs to complete the multi-coin collection or exchange them directly at the casino cashier cage for their $20 face value.
According to Jonathan Jossel, chief executive officer of the Plaza Hotel and Casino, the property refurbished two of the classic machines in 2020 and subsequently added two more to meet growing player demand. He stated that the new coin line honors the history of the downtown resort while maintaining the retro gaming appeal that has drawn consistent traffic to the casino floor. The new token distribution is active and available to patrons visiting the property.
